Burda patterns world-wide

Answers to the most frequently asked questions!

What does burdamode.com have to offer?

By globalizing their website Aenne Burda Publications have supplied the technical means by which their products and services can be made known worldwide and so their products can be ordered online in many countries. All styles published in Burda Fashion Magazine are available as paper sewing pattern pieces included in each monthly issue, so they cannot be ordered individually. You can buy copies of Burda Fashion Magazine at your local newsagent but of course it’s more convenient to take out a monthly subscription by ordering online at INTERNATIONAL SUBSCRIPTIONS

Our Burda Sewing Pattern Collection – arranged in catalogues – contains about 700 styles for you to sew yourself. Browse through our wide range of styles and select sewing patterns according your fancy, need and purse! The sewing patterns you order online will be delivered by the local distributor/online-provider in your country.

What is a Burda sewing pattern?

It’s a large sheet of paper on which all the sewing patterns are printed for all the relevant standard German (Burda) sizes. You can either immediately cut out these pattern pieces in your size, or trace them onto another sheet of paper (and keep the original for later re-use). Each sewing pattern package consists of the pattern sheet(s), sewing instructions and style illustration(s), always in several different sizes and often with various alternatives.
Our sewing patterns are graded according to the level of sewing skill required, so you can immediately recognize whether they are designed for beginners, intermediate or experienced home dressmakers. Our helpful technical drawings and step-by-step instructions will assist you in the making of your garment(s).

How often do we update our Burda Sewing Pattern Collection?

We bring out new sewing patterns twice a year – the latest Spring-Summer styles in January and the Autumn/Fall-Winter fashions in July. Our range of carnival outfits (fancy dress) and historical costumes are topped up each July.

What does a sewing pattern packet contain?

Each sewing pattern packet contains the illustrated style as a printed paper pattern sheet, with the variations mentioned and in the relevant sizes – mostly available in Continental European sizes 36–48, UK or U.S. sizes 10–22 but also in taller and petite proportions as well as in Plus sizes (Continental European sizes 46–60 and UK or U.S. sizes 20–34).

Do Burda sewing patterns come with or without seam allowances?

In continental Europe the sewing patterns come without hem and seam allowances. In English-speaking countries like the UK, USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, sewing patterns come with 1.5 cm (5/8 inch) hem and seam allowances.

How can I find the style I’m looking for?

Look at the Overview page on our Burda Sewing Pattern Collection where all sewing patterns are divided into catalogues – Main Catalogue, Kids Collection and Carnival Catalogue – as well as arranged according to themes. Our range includes garments for HER and HIM, babies, tiny tots, children and adolescents as well as lingerie, wedding and maternity wear, home decoration, doll’s clothes and accessories. For example, if you want a pair of trousers/pants, go to our main catalogue and click on the section for “Skirts / trousers/pants / jumpsuits”. If your daughter fancies something trendy, she’ll find it under “Young Fashion” in the same “Skirts / trousers/pants / jumpsuits” section. Alternatively, entering your “keyword“ in the SEARCH space will also lead you to what you are looking for!

How much do our sewing patterns cost?

There are various price categories (from 4 Euros to a maximum of 10.80 Euros). The price is shown with the style for online ordering.
Burda sewing pattern catalogues and sewing pattern packets indicate the price categories by coloured semi-circles as follows:

  • Green: 5.90 Euros
  • Yellow: 6.50 Euros
  • Grey: 7.50 Euros
  • Blue: 7.90 Euros
