Retro is the word – for fashions and the home! Classic home decorating techniques are celebrating a comeback. Here are the three most exciting trends for you to make yourself.

Sophisticated vases

Tufting – the classic upholstery technique – may look complicated, but it is as easy to do as sewing on buttons! To make these elegant vase covers, just saw wooden boards into shape, then cover them with batting (e.g. from Freudenberg) and fabric. Sew buttons in place to create the typical tufted appearance.

Lap of luxury

Modern frame, old technique – a combination that is in fashion and which turns an ordinary chair into a trend seater! Appealing contrasts – the chair cover is made of beige linen (Chivasso), while piping (JAB) and buttons (Prym) are covered with purple taffeta.

Smart smocking

Smocking isn't just for little girls' dresses. It is admittedly a little time consuming – but this decorative blanket is well worth the effort!

Lamp art

Make a lamp shade of transparent fabric, then go one step further – and add an elegant ring of smocked taffeta.

Wall painting

Wide stripes of metallic paint (Glasurit/Akzo Nobel) turn your wall into an artist's canvas ... Tip: Use masking tape to outline the stripes before you paint.

Classy cushions

Golden circles shine on glamorous purple taffeta! Painting with templates and fabric paints (Marabu) is so easy, that you'll still have plenty of time to sew the cushions.
