Our photo of the month for February
Check out these checks!
Laura Ascherl from Olching, Germany has fashion ambitions. She certainly convinced us with her fitted short coat of houndstooth check. We interviewed this 20-year-old student to discover how she discovered her passion for sewing...
Can you give us a couple of details about yourself?
I'm 20 years old, a chemistry student, and I live in Olching, near Munich.
How and when did you learn to sew?
Actually, I taught myself how to sew. Of course, we had needlecrafts at school, but you (unfortunately) don't really learn how to sew there... Three years ago I really wanted to have a black skirt, but couldn't find anything that I liked. So I went shopping for fabric and made my first sewing attempt on my mother's sewing machine. Looking back, the skirt was really horrible, but it's always possible to learn more ;-)
How many sewing projects do you have in a year?
I sew about five to ten larger projects, such as coats or jackets, plus quite a few smaller projects. Unfortunately, my studies don't leave time for more.
Do you mostly sew for yourself or also for others?
Of course, I like best to sew things for myself but I'm happy to sit down at the machine to also sew for friends and family.
