Seed stitch blanket

From Burda World of Fashon 01/2008
Size: approx. 180 x 220 cm (72 x 86 inches)

Materials: Medium-weight yarn from Schachenmayr “Trachtenwolle” (63% virgin wool, 37% polyacrylic, approx. 185 m/205 yds/100 g): approx. 4000 g dark brown variegated, color 12; 1 round knitting needle, size 8 mm (US 11/UK 0), 80 cm (32 inches) long, 1 crochet hook, size 7 mm (US K/10 1/2 / UK 2).
Attention: Always work with two strands of yarn!
Seed stitch: k 1, p 1 alternately. In the 2nd row and in all foll rows, stagger the sts in respect to the sts of the preceding row.
Tension gauge: 12.5 sts and 19 rows of seed stitch, worked with 2 strands of yarn and 8 mm needles = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches).
Instructons: The blanket is made from 2 strips. For each strip, use 2 strands of yarn and the 8 mm round needle to cast on 114 sts. Work seed stitch. When the strip measures 220 cm/ 86 inches (= 418 rows) from the beginning, bo all stitches. Make the 2nd strip in the same manner.
Finishing: Block both strips, dampen them, and let them dry. Sew the strips together along one long edge, using mattress stitch to make a flat seam. Then use 2 strands of yarn to work 1 rnd of shrimp stitch (= dc, worked from left to right) around all edges of the blanket.

ABBREVIATONS:
st(s) = stitch(es), k = knit, p = purl, bo = bind off, rep = repeat, rnd = round, foll = follow(s)/following, cont = continous(ly), tog = together, slst = slip stitch, ch = chain stitch, dc = double crochet (US = single crochet)
